【例句精析】:“分词后置作定语”和“定语从句”的转换。
上述例句中请注意如下部分——the 1,084 stepsleading to the fifteen-foot wall which surrounded the president's palace中的 leading to the fifteen-foot wall是steps的定语,which surrounded the president's palace是wall的定语。同样是定语,却选择了不同的呈现方式,一个使用分词后置作定语,一个使用定语从句。试问如果这两处定语都改成定语从句会如何?即——the 1,084 steps which led to the fifteen-foot wall which surroundedthe president's palace. 很明显作者之所以这样考虑,是因为如果临近语境中,两次出现定语都用定语从句会构成视觉重复,行文略显单一平淡。同学们也可以把这个写作技巧运用到自己的书面语中去,让我们的行文更显得多样化。
